Positive Impacts of Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy In Women

The social connotation of the word "hormones" makes us think about teenage growth spurts, acne, body odor, periods for females, and uncontrollable mood swings. The reality is: testosterone, estrogen, and progesterone all play a major role in regulating many other processes that directly impact our total health and wellness. When hormone levels decrease throughout menopause, or as an outcome of other underlying concerns like polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), implications can take a huge toll on your overall health.

Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) has been used as a patient-friendly alternative to synthetic hormones for years. While synthetic hormones have dominated the market for the last several decades, research indicates that they also come with a large variety of side effects that can have long-term complications.
What are Bio-Identical Hormones?
The term "bio-identical" refers to patient-friendly versions of testosterone and estrogen that share 98% of their structure with the hormones humans produce naturally. Ultimately, this leads to a much smoother and less-invasive process which provides a better overall experience for the patient. In contrast, the human metabolic systems have a difficult time removing synthetic hormones from the body, which can leave harmful and potentially carcinogenic substances "hanging around" for much longer than intended.
Now that you know what "Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy" means, how do you know if you're a candidate for treatment?
Below we've listed 5 of the most common signs/symptoms that suggest it might be time to get your hormone levels checked.
1. Symptoms of Menopause are Impacting your Day to Day Life
Menopause can cause a variety of symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal dryness, unpredictable moods, and even rapid weight gain. With BHRT, your licensed physician can recommend a BHRT plan that's optimized to relieve the symptoms we're experiencing.
But, you don't have to wait until menopausal symptoms set in to be a candidate. Some women begin BHRT during the premenopausal stage and show positive results.
2. You Have Little to No Interest In Intimacy
Loss of interest in sex/intimacy (libido) is a significant symptom for women entering the premenopausal and menopausal stages. By using BHRT to balance out your hormone levels, you can re-ignite your interest in intimacy-- which is good news for both you and your partner.

3. You're Feeling Extremely Exhausted...A LOT
Do you feel inexplicably tired? Like...really REALLY tired? ALL THE TIME? When your hormone levels are "out of whack", it's possible for it to show up outside of the traditional symptoms.

Hormones play an essential role in many of the body's processes including metabolism, regulating body temperature, growth and repair. Therefore, having too much or too little of a particular hormone can interrupt those essential processes and directly impact energy levels.

Hormones also play a huge role in falling asleep and STAYING asleep. If you are tossing and turning throughout the night and waking up constantly, it could  be your hormones!

4. You Have a Family History of Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis literally means "porous bones," and it's especially common amongst older females whose estrogen levels have plummeted as a result of menopause. Even if you have not revealed signs of osteoporosis, if you have a household history of the disease, you're most likely at a much higher risk. BHRT can replace lost estrogen to help keep your bones strong and healthy.

5. You're Having Issues Focusing

Often referred to as "brain fog," the inability to focus is a negative side effect of hormone imbalances. Especially during menopause. BHRT can provide your brain with the chemicals it needs to "work" the way it's supposed to.

If you are experiencing any of the symptoms above, consult your primary care physician to see if BHRT might be right for you! For any of you looking for hormone therapy in the Charlotte, NC area: contact Modern Concepts to schedule your free hormone consultation!

It never occurred to me that hormone replacement therapy can help those whose show signs of menopause, who have noticed that it is causing hindrance to her day to day life. My wife mentioned that her mother has been coping with the signs of menopause not well. I will recommend the replacement therapy for her to consider.

Kristofer,

Not only can hormone balance play an important role in the symptoms of menopause, but also in a large variety of the body's natural processes. Did you know hormones also regulate the way the body breaks down glucose, repairs muscle, generates/releases heat, and the release of neurotransmitters?

Hormones are amazing!

I'm glad you mentioned that bioidentical hormone replacement therapy can be beneficial to have during pre-menopause as well. I started having symptoms of perimenopause last year, such as irregular periods. Your article made me excited to find a BHRT service in my area and see if I could be a good candidate, so thanks for sharing!

Thanks for explaining that if hormone levels are out of whack and you feel tired all the time, then it would be a good idea to get bio-identical hormone treatment. My wife has been tired for a few weeks now, so I wonder if she is experiencing this problem. I'll let her know about bio-identical hormone replacement because she is tired and can't do much.

Larry,

We're glad you enjoyed the content! It's amazing how hormone imbalances show up as symptoms we would never expect. Males can experience similar symptoms under times of stress...

During stressful times, our bodies produce cortisol which drastically impacts testosterone levels in the body. Without optimal testosterone levels, males can also experience chronic fatigue, weight gain, libido, and irritability.

Thanks for pointing out that menopause can cause a variety of symptoms such as hot flashes and vaginal dryness. As you said, some women begin BHRT during the premenopausal stage and show positive results. I guess I should look for bioidentical hormone replacement therapy on Monday that can be an effective treatment option for the effects of hormone imbalance during menopause.

That is great information... I have been looking for something like this for quite some time as to my husband has been dealing with a few of the same issues. I agree, it is usually us women that do the most research on health related issues. I am a stylist and find that I see quite a lot of men with the loss of hair issue that you speak of.

It helped when you mentioned that hormone pellet therapy can help you to focus. My wife mentioned to me last night that her friend is hoping to find a therapy that can help her with a steady stream of hormones and asked e if I have any idea what is the best option to do. Thanks to this informative article and I'll be sure to tell her that she can consult a trusted hormone pellet therapy service as they can answer all her inquiries and will provide a detailed explanation of the benefits of it.

You made an interesting point when you talked about how testosterone and estrogen play an important role in your overall health. If you are wanting to do hormone therapy, I would think that it would be important to make sure that you are a good candidate. Consult with a doctor would probably be the best way to make sure you are eligible for this kind of therapy.

It really helped when you said that menopause can cause symptoms such as hot flashes, unpredictable moods, and even weight gain. I guess I can opt for hormone therapy for aging if I reach that age. I just worry that I will gain more weight, since I am already having difficulty with losing the fats that I have now that I am in my 40s.

Braden,

It may in fact be a hormone/thyroid-related issue. But to be sure, your primary care physician will know what tests to run! Thank you for checking out the content!
