Hormone Imbalances, Potential Exacerbating Factors, and BHRT Treatment

Hormones are the "unsung heroes" of our bodies. It's very easy to focus on systems like the immune system, the Musculo-Skeletal system, nervous system, and digestive system. But, it's equally easy for us to overlook the system that regulates it all: The endocrine system (the system that regulates our hormones). Because the endocrine system regulates so many of our bodies' essential functions, it is of absolute importance that we keep it functioning properly. That being said, there are a lot of factors/influences that can knock our endocrine system "off the rails". When this occurs, not only do our moods change, but so do some of our other abilities like digesting food, performing sexually, recovering from workouts, and sleeping. Here are some of the factors that can contribute to/exacerbate hormone imbalances:

--poor nutrition/diet
-chronic stress
-high body fat %
-poor sleeping habits
-hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism (underactive/overactive thyroid)
-medications
-cancers/cancer treatments
-iodine deficiency
-eating disorders

The endocrine system is absolutely essential for regulating the body's natural processes, but it's also extremely delicate. Any of the factors above, or a combination of them, can cause a hormone imbalance that leads to an interruption of the body's natural processes. When this occurs, we might experience symptoms like:

-extreme fatigue
-inexplicable weight gain
-mood swings
-sugar cravings
-hair loss
-libido
-loss of appetite
-depression

So...what can be done? The answer is very simple: for an imbalance cause by varying amount of hormones, the solution is to restore the balance through supplementation. This occurs in the form of Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT).
