Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy

What is it?

Natural bio-equivalent hormones are chemically structured to be identical to the hormones our bodies produce naturally. The difference between the “human body made” (aka bio-equivalent) vs. synthetic (non-bio-id-equivalent) is in the molecular structure (shape) of the hormone. Since it is not possible to patent natural bio-equivalent structure, pharmaceutical companies were forced to develop synthetic hormones that are patentable. Most physicians prescribe synthetic hormones to treat menopausal symptoms, but this does not correct the hormonal imbalance which causes so many health problems. Women naturally produce estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone. Men produce mostly testosterone – about 10xs more than women. When your body is lacking these hormones, BHRT is the solution to achieve balance again.

How do I know if I’m deficient?

We’ll take your detailed personal and family medical history. We will then take a blood sample. Lab testing allows us to know what hormones to replace to bring your levels back to an optimal level. Along with reviewing your symptoms, a customized dosage will be prescribed to determine your personalize treatment plan.

What is the treatment like?

The hormones are in pellet form, similar in size to a grain of rice. A small area of the buttocks is anesthetized. A tiny incision is made, and the pellet(s) are inserted. The area is covered with a small dressing, and the entire procedure takes about 15 minutes. You can return to your normal activities immediately. On average, women receive a hormone insert every 10 – 12 weeks, and men every 6 – 8 weeks.
